Marriage Fidelity Day

Each married person by virtue of the marriage vows has entered into a covenant with his or her spouse, and into a covenant with the institution of marriage itself.

Fidelity to those vows is the foundation of a married person¡¯s personal integrity and the foundation of the survival of the marriage.

Infidelity inevitably wreaks destruction on families in general and on innocent children and spouses in particular.

Marriages are the basis for a stable family unit and infidelity creates instability and volatility.

Each member of our community has a vested interest in creating stable, secure families Infidelity affects more than 60 percent of marriages in the United States.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Frank H. Murkowski, Governor of the State of Alaska, do hereby proclaim September 15, 2004, as:

Marriage Fidelity Day

in Alaska, and encourage Alaskans to remember and observe their vows of marriage.

Dated: September 1, 2004
